Part craft talk, part creative confessional—this is where we talk about the real writing life, build our stories and cheer each other on until “The End.”
Welcome to Get Writing
“Get writing” means many things to me.
First, it’s a daily nudge to the writing desk. Butt in the chair, fingers on the keyboard AND head in the clouds—it’s all part of the writing. I’m the only one who can coax my words into form, and only if I keep showing up.
Second, it’s a reminder that writing is movement, not perfection. The words will never come out right on the first try. Or the second. Maybe not even the third. But they will get there if you keep going.
Third, it’s a home for writers who trade perfection for progress—where every draft, rough or refined, is shared and celebrated.
Here, we find joy in the glorious mess of creativity—craft talk, candid musings, figuring out what writing means to us and shifting our mindsets together.
Why this newsletter, and why now?
I’ve overthought this space since I jumped in with both feet last fall. Should I be the writing coach? The mystery author? The essayist? The “woo woo” creative with crystals and tarot cards? The true crime junkie? The animal rescuer with too many puppy pics?
The truth is—I’m all of those things. And I want to connect with your many things, too.
This is our corner of the internet—a slower, more personal place than social media, where we can:
Talk about the real writing life—the messy middles, the sparks of new ideas, the moments we almost give up.
Share what’s inspiring us—books, art, music, random finds.
Experiment and try new things without the pressure of “likes” and algorithms.

About me
Hi, I’m Liz Mugavero—(aka Cate Conte), author of 20 mystery novels, creativity coach, and host of the Get Writing podcast. If a blank page both thrills and terrifies you, you’ve found your people.
20 novels published across three mystery series—so I’ve walked the maze from idea to shelf many times.
Former corporate VP who wrote before dawn & during lunch breaks—aka living proof that busy people can draft books.
Rescue-dog mom, coffee devotee, slightly witchy ritual-lover—because creativity needs quirks.
And I’m so happy you’re here.
Wherever you are in your writing journey—whether you’re knee-deep in a novel, flirting with a first idea, or just trying to find your way back to the page—welcome.
Let’s get writing.
